Why I’ve Quit Social Media and Gone Back to Blogging - Old School!

Like a lot of people I’ve had a love/hate relationship with social media in the last few years. I love it for so many things - inspiring content, connecting with people & other businesses doing with similar views and values, speaking to people who have found my content helpful in some way. But on the other hand it can be a dark, dark place. I find the constant comparing and pressure to make ‘good’ content overwhelming and sometimes paralysing.

In the past I’ve run many businesses, all which have relied on social media, and a few times even tried to ‘make it’ as a content creator / digital nomad but I always come across the same road blocks. I just don’t have the time/energy/productivity/drive (whatever you want to call it) to make consistent content and not be affected by the stuff that flops.

Since starting my wedding planning & coordination business I’ve still felt the same. Regardless of how passionate I am about slow, mindful and less-pressure weddings, I still just find it so hard to put that energy into social media content. I’m also very aware that since my rebrand, focusing more on love and connection in weddings rather than pressure and stress, social media has felt a bit contradictory. It is literally made to make you feel inadequate so you scroll more, so they can sell more advertising.

So I’ve been thinking. What if I just quit social media and started putting my energy into things that I enjoyed more, things that I get value out of? I used to love writing blogs in the 2010s when that was big so why not give it a go? I may also get back into making long form content for YouTube so I still feel like I have an outlet for creativity and being able to have people comment / have conversation.

To be honest it feels like a bit like business self-destruction but I’ve seen a lot of positive reinforcement from other businesses & creators (Matt Davella has a great YouTube video on it) and I am also a big advocate for growth being on the other side of difficult and uncomfortable things…. So here we are!

I would absolutely love to know if you’re here reading this (kind of feel like I’m shouting ‘helloooo’ into the abyss of the internet currently) and if you have felt the same about social media. Also, if you are inclined, let me know if you have any queries or wedding worries or ideas for future blog posts. My ultimate goal in this industry is to help couples feel empowered to plan a wedding that really feels like them with less pressure, stress and even a smaller budget.

Thanks for reading!!
