Here is what most planners will tell you: budget well and save over the space of 2-3 years to have the wedding of your dreams.

I’m telling you NOT to do that. Instead, let’s explore some practical ways to create a beautiful wedding without breaking the bank.

Prioritise What Matters Most

PRIORITISE - What is important to you? Keep it short, 3-4 things. Think about what truly makes your heart sing. Is it the venue, the food, or perhaps the music? While you’re at it, name some things that you don’t really care about or can just eliminate straight away. This will help you focus your budget on what really counts.

Choose Your Date Wisely

DATE - You can literally save thousands of pounds by choosing a midweek date or a non-summer wedding. July and August are getting less and less popular for weddings as many couples opt for a cheaper time of year to get more for their money. Consider a lovely spring or autumn day. The weather can be beautiful, and you might just grab a great deal!

Rethink Your Venue

VENUE - Is booking a huge country house hotel for the whole weekend really essential? Do you feel the need to get legally married in front of all of your guests on that exact day? You can save a fair bit of money by booking a non-traditional wedding venue or one that is not licensed for ceremonies. Consider having a celebrant-led ceremony instead. This can add a personal touch and save you money.

Trim the Guest List

GUESTLIST - Some venues, most caterers, and other suppliers will charge you per guest. Obviously, this means the bigger the guest list, the bigger the budget. You don’t have to invite every distant cousin and work colleague if it doesn’t make sense for you. A smaller guest list allows you to spend quality time with your loved ones. You’ll actually have time to see and speak to more of them, rather than feeling like you’re being dragged around from person to person.

Creative Ways to Save

There are loads of other ways to save some cash and still have a magical day. Here are a few ideas:

DIY Decor

Consider making your own decorations. It can be a fun project to do with friends or family. Plus, it adds a personal touch to your wedding. You can create beautiful centrepieces, table settings, and even signage that reflects your style.

Local Suppliers

Support local businesses by hiring local suppliers. They often offer competitive pricing and can provide a more personal service. Plus, you’ll be contributing to your community!

Seasonal Flowers

Opt for seasonal flowers for your bouquet and decorations. They are usually more affordable and fresher than out-of-season blooms. Plus, you can create stunning arrangements that reflect the beauty of the season.

Simplified Catering

Consider a buffet or family-style meal instead of a plated dinner. This can reduce costs and create a more relaxed atmosphere. Guests can choose what they like and it encourages mingling.

Unique Entertainment

Instead of hiring a big band, consider local musicians or even a DJ. You might find someone who can create a great vibe without the hefty price tag. Alternatively, think about having a friend or family member perform if they have musical talent.

Final Thoughts

Planning a wedding doesn’t have to be stressful or overly expensive. With a little creativity and thoughtfulness, you can have a day that truly reflects your love story without the financial burden.
